When participants at a recent RULER webinar were asked how they were handling their anxiety, they offered up some great Marc Brackett, Ph.D., is founding director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence and professor at the Child Study Center, Yale School of Medicine at Yale University. In addition to being the lead developer of RULER, Marc conducts grant-funded research focused on: (1) the role of emotions and emotional RULER. Brackett is the lead developer of RULER, an evidence-based approach to social emotional learning that has been approved by CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning). The acronym RULER refers to the five key emotion skills of Recognizing, Understanding, Labeling, Expressing, and Regulating emotions. The RULER approach is designed to improve the quality of classroom interactions through professional development and classroom curricula that infuse emotional literacy instruction into teaching–learning interactions.
