I’m wondering if Messages in the Cloud may be activated soon. On my iPhone 7 running iOS 11.2, I just noticed that upon rebooting my iPhone and entering the passcode right away to unlock the phone upon reboot, there’s a red exclamation point over the Messages icon. Try going out of the Messages app and clear it by pushing the Home button twice and swiping the app up. Then re-open it to see if it has fixed.
