If you’re uploading a photo, almost any size or shape will work BUT it’s going to be cropped in the Instagram app to a long skinny rectangle smack dab in the middle. Somehow, I think some dpi settings (e.g. 125%, 150%, 175%, 200%) are "special" in that they get special treatment from the O/S (perhaps pre-renedered font hints or something).
