The servers couldn't keep up and so connections timed out and the app determined that the user had disconnected. I just want to reiterate: There is nothing weird about an app or its servers, if they fail when active connections spike from 0 to over a million in a matter of minutes for the first and only time.
Great app for keeping me up to date on what I read. Very much like the app. One suggestion, if you could have the user change where the back, forward, and home buttons are located, or even better, get trackpad gestures to work (two finger swipe to the left goes back) would make the app perfect. Once the game begins, you must put your finger on the screen. Every once in a while a button will pop up. You must put your finger on the button within 5 seconds.
